VeChain’s Interstellar Hard Fork Is Now Live on Mainnet, Right On Schedule

VeChainThor has completed its Interstellar upgrade. The fork activated on mainnet today at block height 25,902,540, close to the projected 11:15 UTC window, marking the third and final phase of the network’s “Renaissance” overhaul that began in mid-2025.

The recent activation of the Interstellar hard fork has coincided with a powerful bullish catalyst across the market, driving VET up to $0.007979, a massive 77.33% month-over-month surge tracked live on CoinMarketCap, as traders aggressively price in the protocol’s newly achieved EVM equivalence, protocol-level governance approvals, and expanding validator onboarding.

What Changed With The Launch

Interstellar bundles 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals into a single coordinated release, closing much of the gap between VeChainThor’s execution layer and the current state of the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Before this fork, VeChainThor’s EVM implementation sat at a Shanghai-era baseline; Interstellar brings it in line with execution-layer features introduced across Ethereum’s more recent Cancun, Prague, and Osaka upgrades.

The headline additions include:

  • Transient storage — temporary, gas-efficient contract state that clears automatically after execution, useful for reentrancy guards and short-lived authorization data. On VeChainThor, this storage is scoped to a single clause and wiped once that clause finishes.
  • Native cryptographic precompiles — including BLS12-381 and secp256r1 support, giving developers built-in primitives for more advanced signature schemes without custom implementations.
  • Lower-cost contract patterns — several of the bundled EIPs reduce gas overhead for common storage and computation operations.

By adopting these changes in one hard fork rather than staggering them, VeChain says it reduces the number of separate consensus-breaking upgrades developers and node operators need to track going forward.

What Didn’t Change

VeChain has been explicit that this is a protocol-level upgrade, not a token event. There is no token migration, no wallet swap, no new contract addresses, and no change to VET supply, VTHO generation, or staking mechanics. For everyday VET and VTHO holders, the upgrade is invisible, no action is required. The obligation falls on validators, exchanges, and node operators, who needed to be running the updated Thor client ahead of the activation block to stay on the canonical chain.

Where This Fits

Interstellar is the third hard fork in the Renaissance roadmap, following Galactica (which laid the EVM groundwork) and Hayabusa (which overhauled consensus and tokenomics). Taken together, the three forks represent VeChain’s shift from a more permissioned, proprietary-tooling chain toward a permissionless, EVM-equivalent network.

VeChain has framed the goal consistently across the rollout: less custom infrastructure for builders to fight through, more compatibility with the tooling, libraries, and developer habits already standard across the wider Ethereum ecosystem.

Why It’s Getting Attention Now

The timing has coincided with a sharp run-up in VET’s price over the past month, as governance approval, a new validator onboarding, and the scheduled activation all landed in the same short window. None of that changes what Interstellar technically does, it’s a compatibility and efficiency upgrade to the execution layer, but it explains why the fork has drawn more mainstream financial coverage than a typical protocol update.

What to Watch Next

With the activation now confirmed, the real test shifts from “did the fork land cleanly” to “do builders actually show up.” A hard fork that closes the EVM compatibility gap only pays off if it lowers the barrier enough for developers already working in the Ethereum ecosystem to deploy on VeChainThor without friction. That’s a slower, less dramatic story than the activation itself, and it’ll play out over the coming months rather than today.
