RPG Cast – Episode 802: “The Monster Has a Sad”

1. I’m not going to get FR/LG because I have Leaf Green on GBA already, but the price seems fair to me. Gen 10 is virtually guaranteed to be showed off at this year’s Pokémon Presents. Just as a random shot in the dark, there will be the first theatrical anime film for Pokémon since Secrets of the Jungle in 2020.

2. I’m going to predict the announcement of Pokemon Silk and Pokemon Velvet, with a setting inspired by China or Pokemon Sand/Stone set in Australia. If China, the starters will be dragon, lion and panda-likes. If Oz, koala, kangaroo and kookaburra.

   We’ll also get PokeXcom, a new strategy title where you control squads of Pokemon named after your friends, only for them to die in battles against alien invaders after missing with tackle despite having a 96% chance to hit.

   There’ll also be a Pokemon attraction at Nintendo World, and a set of Pokemon tableware. Only available in Japan.

3. FireRed & LeafRed? Are you kidding me? 30 years and we’re still on Gen 1? Bleh. I won’t be touching that stuff with a 20 year pole. Been there, done that a literally human generation ago. Too many games in the world to go backwards.

   We’ll get some Pokémon side entry is my (likely wrong guess). What? Meh, who knows, not me.

4. The pricing for Fire Red / Leaf Green in Canada is $30 each, which is somehow the last price the game had at retail (it got a Player’s Choice release back when those existed) and also irrelevant to my purchase decision. That’s going to come down to if they include events in the release the same way they included the GS Ball event for Celebi in the 3DS Virtual Console version of Crystal, since that would give easy access to Deoxys, Ho-oh, and Lugia.

   I think the Presents will have the reveal of the next generation, and despite some leaks saying it’d be Switch 2 exclusive I still think we’ll see an original Switch version. Also, a surprising amount of Pokemon Go will be there before we hit the fireworks factory.

   Also, for Platty’s comment above me: the first generation is sadly the default when they want a nostalgia play.

5. if I’m honest with myself, I would gladly pay 20 bucks for one of these to get an idea of how the series started. It doesn’t feel great, but it’s like RIGHT ASat the topmost limit for what I’d pay for it.

   P.S. Will there be an Atelier April with the Mysterious games or maybe Ryza 2 on Backtrack? I’m sorry if this isn’t the right podcast to ask but I wasn’t sure the best place to reach yall. 😄
