Dan Hooker hasn’t let some initial pushback to his backyard-fighting tournaments stop him from continuing to expand the idea.
His latest concept saw 16 fighters face off in ‘1-minute scraps’, with each competitor representing a different country.
A series of wild and sometimes brutal brawls resulted in the four semi-finalists leaving the indoors for what appears to be a car park.
Fiji defeated Samoa and Niue beat New Zealand to set up a competitive final that left the onlooking crowd with one request after the one-minute time limit expired.
Calls for one more round to decide who would win the $75,000 cash prize were eventually answered by Hooker, who got a big cheer for confirming that the two finalists would battle it out again.
Unlike the actual FIFA World Cup final, won by Spain in one-sided and fairly dull fashion, Fiji came out victorious in a brawl that left both competitors spent.
A size advantage for Fiji helped him secure the win, despite a spirited attempt from Niue, who had already come through some gruelling bouts.
The full tournament lasted just over an hour thanks to the all-action format, with little time to stop for hydration breaks or musical performances at half-time.
