Inner Circle Esports, a Ukrainian CS2 roster with limited LAN experience, just knocked off one of the most decorated teams in competitive Counter-Strike. The squad defeated Team Vitality 2-0 in the upper bracket quarterfinals of the BLAST Open Porto 2026 group stage, a result that sent ripples through the CS2 community.
The match took place on August 27 during the group stage in Copenhagen, part of a tournament carrying a total prize pool of $1.1M. That prize pool breaks down into $400K for players and $700K for clubs. For a team that qualified through the RES Showdown 4 Europe qualifier back in July, this is the kind of payday you dream about.
How the upset unfolded
Inner Circle took Anubis 13-8, a comfortable margin on a map where Vitality typically holds their own. The second map followed a similar script, with Inner Circle closing out the series without dropping a map.
