Shinnecock did not provide the bite many expected on Thursday during Round 1. Will it fight back on Friday for Round 2?
To start, everyone will be chasing Wyndham Clark, who finished up a brilliant Round 1 early Friday morning, coming in with a 6-under 64. That gave him a two-shot lead as Round 2 begins.

Right behind him is a host of former U.S. Open champs, including Dustin Johnson, Gary Woodland and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Will Clark continue his brilliance? Or will Shinnecock finally show its teeth?
We’ll see how things play out on Friday. There’s a lot of golf to get through, and if Thursday was any indication, the late wave may have quite the advantage weather-wise.

The wind is still blowing, but the greens (so far) appear gettable once again. Don’t know if we will see another 64, like Wyndham Clark posted yesterday/today, but it’s not survive and advance. It’s more … pick and choose your spots.

Jason Day didn’t make it through the first round on Thursday. Day pulled out after 10 holes due to an apparent back injury.
He was visibly hurting during a tee shot, and was then carted off.
Day was 7-over at the time, and was competing his 14th U.S. Open.
