RPG Cast – Episode 799: “Milking Requires Consent”

1. Why yes I did. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was not only my first Final Fantasy game, it was the first Square Enix game I ever played. I knew that the mainline series was very different from FFCC, so I set my expectations accordingly. I really enjoyed the game regardless of its oddities. FFCC also introduced me to the wide world of Square Enix music. It’s still one of my all time favorites game OSTs.

2. QotW: Even though Suikoden 3 isn’t really the black sheep anymore, it was when I played it (before Suikoden 4). My mom bought it for me on a whim. I was fairly new to RPGs, but the narrative really pulled me in. I had no context for how clunky the battle system was, but I knew the fanfare music was fantastic. I didn’t understand any of the references to previous games at all, but it did make me go back to play Suikoden 1. Needless to say, I was very intrigued by Luc’s presence in it, and picked up on the Suiko3 references in reverse.

   Then, I became obsessed with looking in game stores for used copies of Suikoden 2. I wouldn’t play the game until my friend buys it for me off of eBay early in college. It lived up to the hype, and I was happy.
