Guangzhou’s Oktoberfest is back this October, and after 18 editions, it is adding something beyond the usual steins, sausages, and singalongs.
The 18th Guangzhou Oktoberfest will take over China Hotel from October 9 to 11, running nightly from 6-10pm.
The festival officially kicked off its countdown on September 8 with a press conference at the Crystal Ballroom, bringing together media, supporting organizations and event partners for a first look at this year’s edition.
Much of what regulars come for remains firmly in place.
Bavarian band SAKRISCH GUAT returns to the stage with traditional Oktoberfest numbers, Chinese pop songs, and plenty of audience interaction, while free-flow imported German beer accompanies a buffet of German staples, including pork knuckle, Bavarian sausages, charcoal-grilled chicken, and apple strudel.
This year, though, the beer hall is making a little more room for cocktails.
A new multi-brand mobile bar setup will bring professional bartenders and specially created cocktails into the festival, giving anyone who needs a break from beer another way to keep a glass in hand.
The event takes place inside the Crystal Ballroom, a more than 1,200-square-meter ballroom whose design takes inspiration from the kapok, the city flower of Guangzhou.
Before the main event begins, Oktoberfest will also make an early appearance at the Guangdong International Tourism Industry Expo from September 11-13, with German food and beer tastings offering a preview of what is coming in October.
