[p]The next phase of iGaming growth will be determined not only by technological innovation and market expansion, but by operators ability to maintain compliant, secure, and responsible operations, according to entrepreneur and iGaming operations specialist Jose Daniel Duarte Camacho.
Recent industry figures demonstrate both the strength of the market and the operational responsibilities accompanying its growth. The UK Gambling Commission reported that Great Britains gambling industry generated 16.8 billion in gross gambling yield during the year ending March 2025, representing a 7.3% annual increase.
Remote casino, betting and bingo operations generated 7.8 billionan increase of 13.1%with online casino games accounting for 5 billion. Duarte Camacho says this continued expansion is placing greater pressure on operators to strengthen compliance, payment controls, data governance and player-protection systems.

Regulatory Oversight Is Intensifying
Growth is being accompanied by increased regulatory scrutiny. During its 20242025 reporting period, the UK Gambling Commission conducted more than 9,700 compliance activities, compared with approximately 4,200 during the previous year.
The regulator also took enforcement action against 24 operators, resulting in 4.2 million in fines or regulatory settlements.
Duarte Camacho believes these figures demonstrate why compliance cannot remain isolated within legal departments. Operators must incorporate it into product design, marketing, customer verification, payment processing, fraud prevention, employee training and executive decision-making.
Compliance teams also need timely access to reliable operational data. Without accurate information and clearly documented decisions, organizations may struggle to identify suspicious activity, respond to player-risk indicators, or demonstrate compliance during regulatory reviews.
Player Protection Is Becoming an Operational Standard
Responsible-gaming initiatives are expanding across regulated markets. The European Gaming and Betting Association reported that its members sent 100 million safer-gambling messages to customers in 2024a 48% year-over-year increase.
The association also found that 69% of its members customers, representing approximately 26.7 million people, used at least one safety tool. Half of those customers activated the tools voluntarily.
Duarte Camacho says operators should evaluate these programs based on measurable player outcomes rather than the number of messages or tools delivered. Effective systems must identify behavioral risk signals, produce timely interventions and offer customers practical controls such as deposit limits, spending alerts, time restrictions and self-exclusion options.
Responsible gaming cannot be treated as a message displayed after a problem has already developed, Duarte Camacho added. It must be embedded throughout the player journeyfrom registration and deposits to behavioral monitoring, customer support and account closure.

Duarte Camacho emphasizes that companies entering new jurisdictions must understand local regulations, payment behaviors, cultural expectations and responsible-gaming requirements. A model that performs effectively in one market may require significant operational adaptation in another.
