Guide: Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct

Well folks, the first of two Direct showcases for this week is over, and boy was it a doozy.

It was a full 30 minutes’ worth of delicious Zelda news, including the final release date for the hotly-anticipated Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2.

There’s a lot to digest though, so we’ve compiled every announcement from the Direct right here for your perusal. We’ll start off with the full presentation in case you want to watch it as intended, then we’ll dive into each individual reveal.

Every Zelda Announcement

Now let’s dive into each announcement, starting with a delightful new orchestral theme…

40th Anniversary Orchestral Theme

Nintendo kicked things off with a new orchestral theme composed specially for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. It’s lovely, isn’t it?

The Legend of Zelda movie title confirmed

Nintendo confirmed that The Legend of Zelda movie will officially be called… The Legend of Zelda. Quick, pretend to be shocked!

The release date of 30th April 2027 was reiterated, and Shigeru Miyamoto claims that when you watch the movie, you’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle.

Finally, it was confirmed that further updates on the movie will be shared on the Nintendo Today! app.

Nintendo Museum Update

The obligatory Nintendo Museum followed, with Miyamoto confirming that special Zelda-themed tickets will be available for roughly one year. A special history board will also be installed in the museum, while a new photo op will begin from 5th November 2026 featuring the Master Sword.

Finally, the new Super Family Restaurant will also open in Fall 2026.

Ocarina Merch and New Lego

Merchandise based on Ocarina of Time was confirmed, and you guessed it, Nintendo is releasing real Ocarinas. One is a standard instrument from the Nintendo Store, while the other is an electric Ocarina from Hori.

New Lego was also revealed featuring Adult Link and Epona from Ocarina of Time.

Live Orchestra – 40th Anniversary

A live orchestra for The Legend of Zelda will begin in January in Japan, with dates following in the US, UK, and Australia.

Ticket sales will begin later in September 2026. Here’s a look at the confirmed schedule so far…

Zelda: Ocarina of Time Gameplay and Release Date

And now, we arrive at the finale. Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma showcased extensive gameplay for Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, confirming that the game will launch on 5th November 2026.

A full trailer was also revealed to highlight more environments and characters from the game.

Young Link and Young Zelda arrive as new Amiibo

New amiibo were announced for Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Launching in 2027, the figures will unlock N64-style Link and Zelda masks to wear in-game. They look… interesting.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time-themed Console and Pro Controller Revealed

As part of the showcase for Ocarina of Time, Nintendo confirmed that the game will also benefit from a special edition console and pro controller. These will be available from 29th October 2026.
