Get ready to… get lost and starve?

Dragon Ruins is out now on mobile, offering a hardcore dungeon-delving experience
  • Take on a new dungeon-crawling adventure with Dragon Ruins, out now on iOS and Android
  • Delve into the depths and try not to push your luck as you gather gold to upgrade
  • Pick your party and their placement as you deal with vicious monsters and hunt the titular dragon

With the Bank Holiday on the cards for us tomorrow, things may be quieter. But don’t fret, because aside from our latest list of the five new mobile games to try this week, my personal suggestion would be to see about purchasing the newly released Dragon Ruins for iOS and Android!

Out now on mobile courtesy of publisher Kemco, Dragon Ruins has been a personal favourite of mine for a while now. This hardcore dungeon crawler sees you headed to the titular ruins with the aim of slaying the dragon that lurks therein. Along the way, you’ll slay monsters, acquire gold and make trips back to the surface to level up and upgrade your gear.

As you can probably see, this is not an RPG for the faint of heart or those who love their graphics big and flashy. Dragon ruins takes things back to basics with simple wireframe dungeons and automatic battles, where your strategy is where to place your chosen characters, and when to head back to the surface.

Random encounter

Yes, this is the definition of a throwback, as it’s very rare you see something that takes inspiration from pre-Ultima: Underworld dungeon crawlers. Although if you’re an enthusiast for those kinds of games, the lack of other pressing issues, such as hunger, may be a bit of a turn-off.

However, if you’re looking for a proper old-school experience, then Dragon Ruins is definitely one to put your time into. And with its full-on roguelike progression, this is one adventure you can easily sink your hours into!

Looking for more RPG action on mobile? Then why not go ahead and dig into one of our curated lists, such as that of the best RPGs on Android and find out what our top suggestions are for you to try?
