Amparo Ammie Medina was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She came to New York City at the age of nine and learned the value of responsibility and determination as the oldest in a family of six. Medina earned two undergraduate degrees from the City University of New York and two graduate degrees from Manhattan College and Mercy College. She worked in the NYC public school system for over 25 years as a teacher and an administrator and was also involved in developing the citys bilingual curriculum. Medina was an avid mentor and a strong proponent of equal access to education. She continues to be inspired by her lifelong learning and professional experiences.
