September is around the corner, and if you’re looking for easy drop-off and pick-up outfit ideas, we’re here to help. While it’s still technically summer, we’re in that in-between time when every day feels like a different season, no matter how many times you check the weather app. Plus, prepping for the new school year leaves no time for outfit planning.
No, you don’t need specific outfits to impress the PTA, but we polled Glamour editors who are moms, and they unanimously do at least consider how they show up for their kids at school. With that, we’ve curated reliable outfit formulas that take your classic pair of leggings from loungewear to polished and effortless.

A classic school pick-up and drop-off outfit typically involves leggings, but lately track pants have been the go-to bottoms for moms looking to have a slightly more elevated look. “For school drop-off and pick-up, I’m all about adding pieces to my basic T-shirt and sneakers to zhuzh it up and look a little more put-together than I feel,” says Glamour deputy editor Anna Moeslein. “My favorite formula is an oversized button-down shirt on top and swapping my leggings or bike shorts for more interesting, comfy bottoms like track pants.” She then tops this outfit with functional accessories and footwear. “I’ll put on a baseball hat to cover up my messy-mom hair, and the sneakerina trend has been great. I can easily slip those on and off, and they look supercute with everything.”

We love a relaxed sweater and baggy jeans pairing and right now the roll-neck style is the cozy knit you’ll want in your closet. Wear it with slouchy jeans and sneakerinas during the day, or swap a pair of kitten heels for after-school appointments. Keep the beauty in the details for the rest of this look: a mini belt, or the no-waistband Reformation pants and laces on Marc Jacobs Bleeckerina shoes linked below. Simply cuffing your pants can go a long way; it’s the little things that make this sort of comfortable and practical outfit all the more stylish.

From drop-off to the office

“I’m on my way to the office almost every day during drop-off, so I’m just wearing work clothes,” says Glamour director Perrie Samotin. If this is you, you’ll need to prioritize the essentials: an office blazer, smart loafers, and dark-wash jeans that go with everything and do a fantastic job at hiding little chocolate finger stains. Not only are they versatile enough for school drop-offs, but they’re the backbone of a fall capsule wardrobe.

Take your on-the-go mom athleisure fit a step further with a more tailored look. A cinched jacket gives you waist definition and balanced proportions. While it’s a splurge, a Barbour jacket will go a long way in the fall and winter. This one below is waterproof and has a funnel-neck design that’s on trend right now. Pair this outfit with a pair of Mary Jane–style sneakers that are comfy and easy to style with leggings. Capri leggings are having a moment right now, but any 7/8 or full-length pair will do.

The off-duty outfit
If you want to wear sweatpants but feel more productive in “real clothes,” you can’t go wrong with the combo of a graphic T-shirt and jeans. You don’t actually need to shop the flea market for this look, but make sure your vintage-style clothes have a lived-in feel, whether it’s a faded black color or intentionally distressed denim. “I don’t wear anything specific for drop-off, but in my day-to-day styling, comfort is key,” says Glamour and Allure senior commerce director Shanna Shipin. You can keep the laid-back vibes going with low-profile footwear and your accessories: “A woven bag is my staple, and these have the sturdiest handles in the game—perfect for holding a laptop, both kids’ water bottles, snacks, my entire makeup bag, and then some,” she says.
