My husband and I were traveling through Ohio when we decided to stop for the night. It was uneventful. In the morning at the hotel’s breakfast buffet was a woman and her blended family of 7 or 8 kids. The kids were super well behaved. Showed manners, courtesy, etc.
While we were checking out, we ended up being right behind her. There appeared to be an issue with her credit card and she had made some kind of arrangement with the clerk. Then gathered up her kids to drop off at school, then get herself to work. We were not eavesdropping, but just happened to hear enough words to figure it out.
After she left, we had a short conversation about her with the desk clerk. He didn’t divulge any personal information, but did tell us about how hard she works, and how hard it has been for her, as a newly single person, to find an affordable place to live.
We paid her entire outstanding balance. The desk clerk had tears in his eyes. It was only a couple of hundred dollars. But it meant the world to her.
