Undefeated lightweight champion Nurmagomedov bet on himself heading to New York after a year of competing in the more favorable atmosphere of Dubai. He took on fellow unbeaten contender Archie Colgan, who had to watch both Paul Hughes and Alfie Davis get a shot at the belt he was promised.

Nurmagomedov had not signed a new contract with PFL before stepping into the cage on a historic night as Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian watched on from cageside. MVP MMA and PFL just announced a merger, making him a particularly hot free agent regardless of the result.

There was much more than just the PFL lightweight title on the line as Usman Nurmagomedov made his return to American soil tonight in New York. The Russian’s future as a top 155lb fighter in the world hung in the balance, particularly with UFC officials likely watching closely.
It was also a rematch of sorts between Justin Gaethje in the Colgan corner and Khabib Nurmagomedov in his cousin’s. The pair were cagey early, with the champion looking a bit more relaxed as he kept his rival at bay with long jabs and body kicks.
And as Colgan went in for the takedown he was clipped with a massive head kick that spelled the end. He managed to just about survive, but only for a few more seconds as Nurmagomedov piled on the pressure and managed to send him completely unconscious.
