Tom Aspinall’s UFC 328 viewing experience was somewhat spoiled by the commentators.

The UFC heavyweight champion was gripped while watching Sean Strickland’s upset win over Khamzat Chimaev on Saturday night.

However, Tom Aspinall spent a lot of the UFC 328 main event disagreeing with the broadcast team.

After producing two of the greatest upsets in UFC history, is it time to give Sean Strickland his flowers? 👑

Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik were on commentary duty at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Tom Aspinall first voiced his frustration with their work during the fourth round of Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland.

“’DC’ talking bout the only reason Sean Strickland is getting tired is because Khamzat is landing body shots,” he said. “Not the fact that they’ve just had a fight for 20 minutes. That doesn’t matter. It’s just the body shots that are making him tired, nothing else.”

Aspinall added: “We can’t hear the corner work because Joe Rogan is talking bout how bad Khamzat’s cardio is after all his training. I wanna hear the corner. Stop telling us about Khamzat’s cardio.”

The English UFC star got even more frustrated with Rogan and Cormier in the final round of the fight.

“The commentators are saying, ‘Sean has got to land some big shots to win the fight in this fifth round.’ I know they’re jabs, but he is landing a lot of them. Just because it’s a jab doesn’t mean it’s insignificant,” Aspinall insisted.

“It’s still a powerful strike that is causing damage, so I disagree with the narrative that just because they are jabs, they are not effective.

“The commentators are talking like it’s insignificant just because they are jabs, and it isn’t. They are still doing damage. They are still landing. There are significant strikes. You only have to look at Khamzat’s face to know they are good strikes.

Is Khamzat Chimaev struggling to live up to his promise in the UFC? 🤔

“Joe Rogan is talking about how he needs something significant. They are jabs, yeah, but it doesn’t mean they are insignificant strikes. They are doing damage. They are landing, keeping him away, and snapping his head back. It’s a good, effective strike.”

Aspinall wasn’t sure, but he thought Strickland might’ve done enough to get the win after 25 minutes.

“It could’ve gone either way, for me,” he concluded after the split decision verdict was revealed.

“When it just showed the significant strikes, it was 90-something Khamzat, and 133 Sean Strickland.

“I know it doesn’t always come down to stats, but… that was a good fight, man.

“Fair play to both guys. That was good. I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch.
