Son of ex-Seahawks starter signed, Bud Clark and Mason Richman placed on IR

The Seattle Seahawks returned to practice on Tuesday after Sunday’s preseason loss to the Tennessee Titans. They also made a series of roster transactions, which included three signings and the dreaded decision to place two young players on injured reserve.

As expected, the Seahawks placed rookie safety Bud Clark on injured reserve after breaking his ankle on the first defensive play of the Titans game. Mike Macdonald confirmed that Clark would miss “multiple months” and this IR placement confirms that the next time we’ll see him is in 2027.

The news is also bad for second-year offensive lineman Mason Richman, who was making inroads as one of the primary backup guards. After walking off what looked to be a non-contact right leg injury, Macdonald said on Sunday that Richman was feared to have a “long-term” injury. It doesn’t get much more long-term than out for the whole season.

Seattle had an open roster spot prior to placing Clark and Richman on IR, and the team wasted no time in filling those three vacancies.

Running back Justin Jones returns after playing in the Dallas Cowboys game. He was waived shortly thereafter but will presumably get some game time versus the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. Running back Anthony Hankerson going back to college football essentially opened up a spot for someone else at the position.

Former Oregon safety Tysheem Johnson was also added to the roster. This comes with both Clark gone for the year and Rodney Thomas II recovering from recent hand surgery.

Finally, offensive tackle Derrick Graham was signed following the absence of reserve Seahawks tackle Amari Kight, who did not play any snaps last Sunday. Graham’s father, also named Derrick Graham, played nine NFL seasons from 1990 to 1998. He was Seattle’s starting right guard in the 1996 and 1997 seasons before ending his career with the Oakland Raiders.
