Jean Silva vs Jose Delgado result: Submission ends exciting Noche UFC main event

Featherweight has a new number one contender after the Noche UFC main event.

Jean Silva looked to secure himself a title shot by beating Jose Delgado on Saturday night.

The winner of their fight is expected to move on to face whoever holds the 145lb belt after Alexander Volkanovski takes on Movsar Evloev at UFC 333 on October 24.

Jean Silva strangely plodded forward and refused to throw punches at the start of the fight.

Jose Delgado tried to bait him with feints before letting his hands go for real to score a knockdown.

Silva started to fight properly after that, but he didn’t do enough to take the round on the scorecards.

Round two was much better for the Brazilian, who landed good shots, enjoyed some ground control, and got the fans excited with some wild attacks.

Delgado was competitive in the second stanza, but he didn’t land anything you would call eye-catching.

Silva really took over in the third frame, as he chased down his opponent and hunted for the finish.

Delgado tried to wrestle after being dropped, which led to him being choked out in his biggest fight to date.

“Whoever holds that belt, the next champion is right here,” Silva said during his post-fight interview.

“There’s a new champion in town.”
