Eli Drinkwitz led the Missouri Tigers to a 38-21 win over Kansas on Friday night in the latest edition of the Border War, moving Missouri to 2-0 on the season.
As Drinkwitz made sure the Tigers had the final word on the field after Kansas’ “Heroes and Villains” hype video, he didn’t hold back when it came to taking shots at the rival school.

Before Kansas suffered a lopsided defeat against Missouri, the Jayhawks’ social media team released a hype video looking back at memorable moments from the first 121 meetings between the rivals. The video referenced several big figures and historical events connected to the rivalry, including the Lawrence Massacre.
Narrated by Kansas alum Gilbert Brown, the video explored the conflicts and tensions that existed before the rivalry officially began. The hype video was also shown inside the stadium, drawing a huge reaction.
However, Missouri had the final word where it mattered most, as the Tigers cruised past Kansas to win the 122nd edition of the Border War, and Drinkwitz also made his feelings clear in a series of tweets.
“Hey, Jack!? How’d that hype video end!? Cause I didn’t see y’all take the goalpost!? Was that supposed to happen??#MIZ #WINNERSWIN,” Drinkwitz wrote.

Drinkwitz later reposted a video showing Kansas fans leaving the stadium and used the moment to take another jab at the Jayhawks.

“I thought Jack Settleman and Melvin Gordon were taking the goalpost!?!? Guess nobody’s gonna help them!?!?” Drinkwitz tweeted.

The Missouri coach also responded to a post from the Kansas football program that said, “There’s right and wrong. There’s Kansas and Missouri. 😤 Beak ’em, Hawks!”

Drinkwitz also addressed Kansas’ hype video after the game, making it clear he was not impressed by how the rivalry’s history was presented.
“I’m just glad that this whole right versus wrong [expletive] that was started just got settled on a football field, because it’s a football game,” Drinkwitz said, via Mizzou Today. “It’s an American football game that people love to come watch and cheer for their teams.
“It’s not even deeper than that. I get there’s a past to it, but why are we stirring that [expletive] up? It’s 9/11. This country needs unity now more than ever. I was embarrassed for them, to be honest, and that’s why I tried to embarrass them at the end.”
The win represented another statement from Missouri, which overcame several stretches of adversity, including mistakes of its own making, while also securing the win.
With another Border War win secured, Missouri will now turn its attention toward its next game. The Tigers are scheduled to face Troy on Sept. 19 as they look to carry their momentum.
