One-time UFC title challenger Anthony Smith has been arrested in Nebraska charged with three felonies.

Former light-heavyweight contender Smith retired from the UFC last year, and has found work ever since on the promotion’s broadcasts. He also returned to action in a bare-knuckle MMA bout with Chase Sherman on Gamebred FC earlier this year which he won by submission in the first round.

On Monday night, the day after his 38th birthday, Anthony Smith was arrested in his adopted home state of Nebraska. He is facing charges of domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, terroristic threats and false imprisonment and remains in prison at the time of writing.

The former fighter competed for 17 years as a professional before hanging up his gloves last year at UFC Kansas City. He fought for the light-heavyweight title in March of 2019 at UFC 235, a fight in which he was hit with an illegal knee that threatened to see Jon Jones disqualified had Smith stayed down.

From there, he continued to compete for years until eventually retiring with a record of 37-22. He now works on the UFC broadcast and has a YouTube channel where he covers the sport and discusses issues of the day.
