Morne Visser doubts that Kamaru Usman will try to strike with Dricus du Plessis.
Du Plessis has said that Khamzat Chimaev subverted his expectations after he and his team worked on scrambling out of submission attacks.
Instead, ‘Borz’ was able to control his opponent on the ground for the vast majority of their clash in August without attempting one submission.
Despite the one-sided nature in which du Plessis lost the middleweight title, his coach is still able to take positives away from his fighter’s performance.

Morne Visser recalls Dricus du Plessis nearly taking Khamzat Chimaev’s ‘head off’ at UFC 319
Dricus du Plessis has said his loss to Khamzat Chimaev wasn’t a fight due to his opponent consistently getting to a dominant position but not causing any damage.
Having spent nearly 22 minutes being controlled on the ground, ‘Stillknocks’ was able to land just 13 significant strikes in the five-round bout.
That was enough to convince his coach, Morne Visser, that Kamaru Usman won’t want to test du Plessis’ striking when they meet on July 18.
“So, I think he’s going to try to wrestle with us. I don’t think he’s got the balls to stand up with Dricus,” Visser told Fight Forecast. “We all saw what Dricus did to Khamzat. He clipped him I think two or three times and he almost took his head off. He just wanted to be on the floor and held on to Dricus. Never even one submission attempt.”

Visser did acknowledge that Usman is a very well-rounded fighter who might specialize in wrestling but has other tools available to him.
However, he isn’t letting this change their approach to this fight, with him focusing instead on du Plessis “enforcing” his own game.
When ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ fought Chimaev back in 2023, he landed 23 more significant strikes than du Plessis managed against the same opponent despite competing with ‘Borz’ for two less rounds.
