It doesn’t sound as though Jon Jones will be offered a UFC fight any time soon.

Earlier this year, Jon Jones called for his release from the UFC after he was denied a spot on the historic UFC Freedom 250 event.

The former UFC champion then began to explore ways that he could get out of his UFC contract so that he could fight Francis Ngannou potentially under the MVP MMA banner.

Despite that, earlier this week, Jones claimed that the ‘door is open’ for him to return to the promotion and he is open to beginning negotiations.

Tell us what you think about Jon Jones.

Is it time for him to retire, or should he fight again in 2026?

White shuts down Jones’ potential return to the UFC

This past weekend, Jones was back in the surroundings of the promotion when he cornered Gable Steveson in his UFC 329 debut.

After training with Steveson throughout his UFC 329 camp, Jones admitted that it made him ‘miss fighting’, giving him itchy knuckles.

But despite his claim that the door is open for a potential return to the sport, UFC boss Dana White has somewhat dismissed his comments, claiming that he is retired.

“I was under the same impression (that he was retired),” White said during a recent interview with Spinnin Backfist.

“We’re always making offers, I didn’t see (his comments). We have like, almost 800 guys under contract and they all have to be offered three fights a year, these guys are always getting offers.

“No (we don’t have to offer them fights, if they’re retired), that’s different, yeah, that’s different. Don’t even get me started,” White continued.

Although Jones is still under contract, he seemingly notified the promotion about his retirement.

Despite that, the 38-year-old claims he is still in the drug testing pool and will be ready to make a return if he is happy with a fight the UFC offers.

At this point, though, it seems unlikely that ‘Bones’ will return to any sort of combat, and he recently turned down the idea of boxing Oleksandr Usyk after news came out regarding that potential super fight.
