It is time to wrap up our look at all of the bird teams the Dallas Cowboys will face in 2026 as part of our bigger preview series that will go through the full schedule, and the most consequential birds as well – their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. We’ve already looked at the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, and defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks (links below), which will all be big games for the Cowboys this season, but it feels like for the umpteenth time a Cowboys season will ultimately be defined by how they fare against the Eagles.

The Cowboys and Eagles split the season series for the third time in the last four years in 2025, with both teams defending home field. The Eagles won in their first game as reigning champs in the Thursday night kickoff game, 24-20 after stopping a late Cowboys drive, and the Cowboys returned serve at home in Week 12 with a 21-point comeback to win 24-21.

Although only in the most technical sense of the definition, the Cowboys and Eagles meeting this year on Thanksgiving for just the third time in history won’t count as a primetime game, but the first meeting in Philly will be on Monday Night Football in Week 7. Any fan with a pulse should know that both of these matchups are going to draw plenty of eyeballs, and have their say in which team may win the division as either one has for five years in a row, and nine of the last ten.

The Cowboys are looking to build a team with real playoff viability beyond just the division they haven’t won since 2023. The Eagles were repeat winners for the first time by any NFC East team in over two decades.

The Eagles suffered a Wild Card home loss to start off their title defense last season left a lot to be desired within their rabid fanbase, and they have clear needs for change if the Eagles are going to climb to the top of the mountain again. The Eagles have been proactive about a lot of these changes, but also will have to be reactive to the Cowboys hiring away Christian Parker to be their latest defensive coordinator, losing a key piece alongside DC Vic Fangio.

Eagles Key Free Agent Signings/Departures

*SIGNED IN FREE AGENCY

  • DT Jordan Davis (Re-signed)
  • TE Dallas Goedert (Re-signed)

*DEPARTED IN FREE AGENCY/TRADE

For a short time, this Cowboys-Eagles rivalry was unfortunately defined by one team missing their starting quarterback, but fans can only hope last season’s progress of having both games be a Jalen Hurts vs. Dak Prescott duel can continue with both 2026 games being in such high profile spots. If it does play out this way, one of the most interesting points of comparison will be how the two side’s vastly different approaches at wide receiver this offseason will setup their franchise QBs for success.

The Eagles not being able to move the ball through the air in pivotal spots of that playoff loss to the 49ers was part of the catalyst for completely retooling their pass game at wide receiver, and they’ll also have a new offensive coordinator in charge of making it all hum with Sean Mannion. After the recent trade of A.J. Brown that everybody kind of knew was coming, the Eagles WR corps will be Devonta Smith and Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and perhaps most importantly first-round pick Makai Lemon.

It’s been covered extensively how the Cowboys liking what they already have at wide receiver between CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Ryan Flournoy has been instrumental in allowing them to focus on their full-scale defensive rebuild. Now matching up with the Eagles for 2026, will they get the types of Pickens and company performances that sparked the unthinkable comeback at home against Philly last season, or plays like Lamb’s letdown drops in week one that defined that road loss? How much will offensive play-calling continuity matter in this equation, with the Cowboys also running it back with Brian Schottenheimer as HC/play-caller and Klayton Adams as OC, and the Eagles having yet another new voice in Hurts’ helmet?

Eagles 2026 Draft Class

  • Round 1, Pick 20: WR Makai Lemon
  • Round 2, Pick 22 (54 Overall): TE Eli Stowers
  • Round 3, Pick 4 (68 Overall): OT Markel Bell
  • Round 5, Pick 38 (178 Overall): QB Cole Payton
  • Round 6, Pick 26 (207 Overall): G Micah Morris
  • Round 7, Pick 28 (244 Overall): S Cole Wisniewski
  • Round 7, Pick 35 (251 Overall): DL Uar Bernard
  • Round 7, Pick 36 (252 Overall): DE Keyshawn James-Newby

The Eagles started their draft with a full-court press on improving offensively, even pulling off a trade-up with the Cowboys to 20th overall to ensure they’d get Makai Lemon. The run on tight ends overall came much later in this draft, but the top two prizes in that class were Eli Stowers and Kenyon Sadiq, with the latter going in the first round and the former being a high-value second-round pick for the Eagles.

Defensively, the Eagles do still have Vic Fangio in place as coordinator and building blocks like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, Zack Baun, Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, and drafted some interesting pieces to keep their depth strong as well. Cole Wisniewski is a potential steal of this draft in the seventh round at safety, a rangy player that should be a plus scheme fit under Fangio.

Then there’s Uar Bernard, drafted through the International Player Pathway out of Nigeria without any experience in organized, professional football. The Eagles have some experience turning such players into gems like offensive line starter Jordan Mailata, a former Australian rugby player, and now will be looking to do so in the trenches on the other side of the ball with Bernard.

As far as Cowboys and Eagles meetings go, both games are relatively early this season, as the Cowboys will instead play the Giants and Commanders in Week 17 and Week 18.

Eagles 2026 Coaching Changes

*New to staff this season:

  • Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion
  • Passing Game Coordinator Josh Grizzard
  • Tight End/Run Game Coordinator Ryan Mahaffey
  • Offensive Line Chris Kuper
  • Secondary Mike Pellegrino

The biggest name on this list that will be in the biggest spotlight, and likely have the most pressure on him, is offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Coming over from the Green Bay Packers where he was quarterbacks coach for Jordan Love, Mannion’s name came up quickly in this offseason’s coaching search as a candidate a lot of teams thought highly of.

Mannion is the Eagles’ third OC in three years, going from Kellen Moore in the Super Bowl season to Kevin Patullo to Mannion. When it comes to scheming against the Cowboys, he will be calling plays against a Cowboys defense also on their third coordinator in three seasons, going from Mike Zimmer to Matt Eberflus to now Christian Parker directly from the Eagles. The Eagles are also breaking in a new line coach and run game coordinator alongside Mannion.

Whether or not this will lead to another resurgent season from Saquon Barkley out of the backfield, or if he’s already reached his peak in Philly, is a discussion worth having. No matter if it’s through the air, on the ground, or with splash defensive plays, and even special teams getting involved, Cowboys and Eagles games have a way of being defined by just a handful of clutch-time plays each time out. 2026 is looking no different as Schottenheimer and Nick Sirianni go head-to-head.

2026 will be year six for Sirianni, surpassing his predecessor Doug Pederson who coached five seasons from 2016-2020. Both Pederson and Sirianni have already brought a championship to Philadelphia, but the long-term future beyond this season for Sirianni is riding on holding off the Cowboys, Giants, and Commanders to be at very least in the playoff picture again.

Cowboys fans are also expecting much more in year two from Brian Schottenheimer, looking to end a two-year playoff drought. The intensity surrounding just about everything for Cowboys-Eagles this season, Thanksgiving included, feel heated up to a boiling point.

Mike Pellegrino is the Eagles’ most direct hire as a replacement for Christian Parker. He was the Patriots cornerbacks coach from 2019-24, and most recently the nickels coach for the Bills in 2025. Cowboys fans are already familiar with how Parker’s emphasis on the nickel position while working alongside Fangio was a huge part of the Eagles having great pass defenses, as well as helping them land Caleb Downs as a do-it-all nickel defender as Parker’s first draft pick as DC. The Eagles kept this emphasis in hiring Pellegrino as secondary coach, which should continue to make the Eagles secondary a formidable test for the Cowboys continuity-based passing game.
