Undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane didn’t hold back on his perception of Tom Aspinall since their UFC 321 fight.
Tom Aspinall stole the headlines last week when he announced he was vacating his UFC heavyweight title to focus on his recovery from multiple eye injuries. Aspinall, who hasn’t fought since a no contest against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321, has suffered numerous setbacks in his recovery from multiple eye pokes last year.
Gane was promoted to undisputed champion by the UFC matchmakers following an interim title win earlier this year. He won the interim belt by finishing former two-division champion Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250.
Aspinall has repeatedly labeled Gane as a ‘cheater’ during his injury-related hiatus. After Aspinall let the heavyweight division proceed without him, Gane isn’t letting his former foe off the hook.

In a recent interview with Zack Nani TV, Gane reacted to Aspinall’s indefinite departure and how he’s handled his recovery.
“We knew he was fragile mentally,” Gane said of Aspinall.
“We had guessed it; we suspected it. The guy complains a bit too much. You got poked in the eyes; you have a right to stop. If you feel pain, there’s an issue. There’s no need to do all that you did in terms of communication because it worked against you in the end.
“We saw the fingers; there’s no need to do all that you did.” (h/t Heavy)
As of this writing, Aspinall hasn’t responded to Gane’s scathing remarks.
Gane will fight Josh Hokit in his first undisputed heavyweight title defense at UFC 334 later this year. Hokit earned the title shot after recent wins over Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes.
