Amazon still has some great manga and anime deals lingering around after Cyber Monday, including enormous discounts on Dark Horse’s Trigun and Trigun Maximum Deluxe Editions as well as limited-time price cuts on Trigun anime collections. The handsome hardcover edition of the original Trigun story arc is on sale for only $18.23 (was $50). Published last September, Trigun Deluxe Edition is a massive 704-page omnibus with premium presentation value.

All 14 volumes of Nightow’s follow-up series Trigun Maximum have also received the Deluxe Edition treatment across five matching hardcover books. Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition Volume 1 is discounted to only $20.17 (was $50), and multiple other volumes are on sale for over 50% off. Meanwhile, the classic Trigun anime on DVD is only $22 (was $40) and Trigun Stampede on Blu-ray is down to $21.

Trigun Deluxe Edition

$18.23 (was $50)

Each of the Trigun and Trigun Maximum hardcover Deluxe Editions is printed on high-quality 7″ x 10″ pages. The books have red leatherette covers with burnishing, foil-stamped lettering, and an image of a weapon from the series. These weighty tomes also include built-in bookmarks.

Written and illustrated by Yasuhiro Nightow, Trigun was originally published in Japan as a three-volume series in 1995-1996. Dark Horse later acquired the North American rights and published it for the first time as a two-volume series in 2003-2004.

Trigun’s original story arc sets the stage for Vash the Stampede and the hostile alien planet he calls home. Essentially a sci-fi western, Trigun follows Vash as he attempts to non-violently dissuade bounty hunters from trying to claim the $60 billion mark on his head. While Vash is a force to be reckoned with when he does choose to draw his gun or unleash an internal weapon that can punch a hole in the planet, he’s also a pacifist at heart.

Unfortunately, with so many people after him, he also leaves a trail of destruction in his wake and he has become known as the Humanoid Typhoon because of these misadventures.

Trigun Maximum Deluxe Editions: Volumes 1-5

Get Volume 1 for $20.17 (was $50)

As mentioned, Trigun Maximum is a sequel, so you’ll want to read the original before diving into the much lengthier follow-up series. Dark Horse’s Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition series debuted last October. The final entry in the series released in June.

  • Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition: Book 1 — $20.17 ($50)
  • Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition: Book 2 — $37.49 ($50)
  • Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition: Book 3 — $16.85 ($50)
  • Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition: Book 4 — $22.70 ($50)
  • Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition: Book 5 — $28.56 ($50)

After two years in hiding, Vash emerges from semi-retirement in Trigun Maximum to take on the Gung-Ho Guns, a deadly band of bounty hunters led by his estranged brother Knives Millions. Deluxe Edition Book 1 is 600 pages in length, and collects Volumes 1-3 of the sequel manga.

Book 2 covers Volumes 6-9 of Trigun Maximum and clocks in at 624 pages. At $37.49, Book 2 is the most expensive of the bunch by nearly $10, but this is partially because most of these deals are abnormal for Dark Horse’s Deluxe Edition manga. The third book, for instance, is on sale for only $16.85. The 632-page hardcover collects Volumes 7-9.

Book 4 is the longest Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition at 688 pages (Volumes 10-12) and is on sale for $22.70. Book 5 collects Volumes 13-14 and comes in at 560 pages. Considering it’s only been in stores since the middle of June, the nearly 50% discount is really solid.

Trigun Anime Deals

If you’re looking for more Trigun, the recent anime reboot Trigun Stampede is highly recommended and available on Blu-ray for $21. This was priced at $70 earlier this year, so the current $21 price, which is an all-time low, is even better than it sounds already. For big Trigun fans, the Limited Edition box set is on sale for $54 (was $90). Inside the exclusive collector’s box you’ll find art cards, a replica of the Bernardelli Times newspaper, drink coasters, and a patch.

From a visual perspective, Trigun Stampede is one of the best Japanese anime created with CGI. It looks delightful, with impressive fluidity that sets a high benchmark for other anime productions. This version of Trigun also makes major changes to the storyline, and while opinions might differ on these narrative tweaks, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised at how they improve on the original saga.

You can also save nearly 50% on the complete original series on DVD and get the great 2011 movie Trigun: Badlands Rumble for only $11.49 on Blu-ray.
