In a race dominated by South American athletes – and without any major European contenders on the start line – Federico Scarabino and Djenyfer Arnold claimed impressive victories today at Ironman 70.3 Florianópolis.
For Scarabino, the win may have looked straightforward on paper, but in reality, it was an outstanding display of dominance. He took control from the swim, staying ahead as a few competitors tried to follow, but once on the bike, he quickly distanced himself and never looked back. Scarabino crossed the finish line in 3:35:11, holding off Luciano Taccone by 1 minute and 13 seconds (3:36:24). Fernando Toldi completed the podium in 3:39:08.
Arnold also delivered a stellar performance. While she lost some ground in the swim and early bike stages – with Vittoria Lopes showing superior form over the 90 km bike leg – Arnold’s strength on the run proved decisive. Starting the half marathon 2:14 minute down, she closed the gap within 15 kilometers and surged ahead to take a brilliant victory in 4:00:56. Lopes finished second in 4:05:10, while Romina Biagioli rounded out the top three in 4:07:20.
