Night at the Museum? 3 Holiday Hours Extended

Guangzhou’s museum day is stretching well beyond the usual 5pm finish this holiday.

That leaves room for a museum stop after a late lunch, before dinner, or once the daytime heat has eased.

This is especially useful during a holiday, when fitting everything into the afternoon can be a challenge.

The biggest change comes at the Guangdong Museum of Art, Bai’etan. From September 25–27 and October 1–7, the museum will stay open from 9am to 9pm, giving visitors a full evening to explore the galleries.

Eleven exhibitions will be running across the holiday period, and individual visitors can enter without making a reservation.

Over in Zhujiang New Town, Guangdong Museum is also extending its day for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

From September 25–27, doors will remain open until 9pm, with last entry at 8pm, four hours later than its regular closing time.

Reservations are still required.

For something farther west, Cantonese Opera Art Museum in Liwan does not need a special holiday schedule at all.

The museum already stays open until 9pm from Tuesday to Sunday, making it one of Guangzhou’s easiest cultural stops to save for the evening.

Its traditional architecture, gardens, and location in the old city also give the visit a very different pace from the large contemporary museums across town.

Not every museum is joining the late shift.

Nanyue King Museum, including both the King’s Tomb and Palace sites, is currently keeping its regular 5.30pm closing time, with no holiday night opening announced so far.

For anyone whose museum clock usually starts winding down around 4.30pm, the holiday gives them a few extra hours.
