Former UFC champion Kamaru Usman refused to rule out a massive crossover fight with YouTube star KSI – for the right price.
Usman, who was once calling for a clash with Canelo Alvarez during his UFC prime, was in attendance on Saturday night at Misfits Boxing’s Miami show. He was there to take part in the broadcast and support his close friend Henry Cejudo at ringside.
Where does Kamaru Usman go from here?
‘Triple C’ got the job done with an impressive split decision win over Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton to mark yet another successful sporting debut. After the fact, he broke down the entire thing with Usman on their Pound 4 Pound podcast.
Kamaru Usman open to potential KSI fight amid uncertain UFC future
Inside the octagon, Kamaru Usman’s recent record has been spotty at best, and it appears his days of challenging for world titles may be behind him. His defeat to Dricus Du Plessis earlier this year likely crushed his hopes of a middleweight run, and it remains to be seen what is next.
In the new episode of his podcast with Henry Cejudo, the former bantamweight and flyweight champion noted that ‘people at Misfits’ are talking about a possible clash between Usman and KSI. They are both of Nigerian descent, and both use ‘The Nightmare’ moniker for their fights.
The welterweight legend remained coy about the idea, asking what kind of bag might be put on offer for such an event. “Listen, like I’ve always said and like you said with RAF Wrestling and all these different things I never say [never],” Usman teased before an abrupt cut was made in the edit.
KSI hasn’t fought since he was defeated by Tommy Fury in October of 2023 by unanimous decision. He has booked two comeback fights but pulled out of both with a hand injury and an alleged illness, but is reportedly finally heading for surgery on his hand that could see him compete again.
