The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) has fined the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation over suspicious transactions. The center confirmed that both bodies have complied with the penalties and that the cases are now closed.
New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation Paid a $289K Penalty
On September 3, 2026, the FINTRAC announced that the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation had been slapped with an administrative monetary penalty over AML-related violations.
The FINTRAC elaborated that it understood that the corporation had failed to submit suspicious transaction reports tied to potential instances of money laundering and terrorism financing. According to the regulatory body, this was a serious offense.
As a result, the FINTRAC levied, on July 24, 2026, a fine of CAD 399,712.50 ($289K) against the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation.
Stéphane Sirard, acting director and CEO of the FINTRAC, commented on the matter, emphasizing that Canada’s AML & CTF rules exist to shield Canadians, Canadian businesses, and Canada’s financial system from harm and fraud. Sirard noted that the obligations outlined in the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act are crucial to deterring criminal activity.

The FINTRAC noted that the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corporation has since paid the penalty and that the matter is now closed.
Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation Paid a $167.5K Penalty
As mentioned, the FINTRAC also penalized the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. The fine, which was originally imposed on July 23, 2026, was also due to non-compliance with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act.
According to the FINTRAC, the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation was also found to have submitted reports related to attempted transactions that could have been tied to money laundering or terrorist financing. In addition, the gaming body had failed to develop and apply written compliance policies and procedures that are kept up to date and are approved by a senior officer. The FINTRAC concluded that the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation ultimately failed to assess the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing offenses.
As a result, the regulatory body issued a CAD 231,826 ($167.5K) fine to the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation.
CEO Sirard issued a similar statement in relation to this fine as well, warning that his team will not hesitate to take action when needed.
