Von Miller was a big addition to the Cowboys during the offseason, and he couldn’t be happier to be back in Texas. Tyler Guyton is entering the most important season of his young career, and his play, or lack thereof, will have a lot to do with how Dallas performs on offense.
Joe Milton was brought back on the practice squad, and according to Dak Prescott, it gives the quarterback room a boost. Camden Brown has taken full advantage of his opportunities, but his main impact this year likely won’t be as a wide receiver.
Von Miller has been in the NFL for a decade and a half and has had tremendous success. However, being back in Texas and playing for the Cowboys is something that means a lot to him.
“[The media is] probably the 50th person to tell me that,” said the eight-time Pro Bowler. “The smile has come back, you know? I’ve always loved playing football. I’ve been able to play for some amazing teams, with amazing quarterbacks and amazing coaches. But it’s just something different about being here. … Coming here to The Star and seeing this amazing facility, and going to the stadium, I am glad we had that preseason game because I was in awe.”

One of the more debated topics of the roster moves around the NFL over the past week was the Dallas Cowboys’ decision to waive backup quarterback Joe Milton III in favor of keeping Sam Howell on the 53-man roster to be the primary backup to Dak Prescott.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer explained that the decision to keep two quarterbacks was likely always going to be the case to preserve roster spots at other positions. While three quarterbacks made the initial 53-man roster, Milton was waived a day later to make room for running back Emari Demercado.
The Cowboys have being a lot of wheeling and dealing lately. On Thursday, they added veteran tight end James Mitchell.

The team announced late on Thursday that they have signed veteran tight end James Mitchell to their practice squad. Mitchell started his career in Detroit after being selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech.
There’s a lot of buzz about the Cowboys offense going into this season, especially with George Pickens being back. However, Tyler Guyton is the pivotal piece.
Guyton has the physical tools of a quality starting left tackle, but he has suffered mental lapses and taken easy penalties. Since he entered the league in 2024, Guyton is third among tackles in penalties per game (0.84). He has missed time because of ankle, shoulder and knee injuries. Now, he needs to string together consistent, mistake-free play.
A leap from Guyton would benefit the entire offensive line. Guyton and right tackle Terence Steele warrant some chip help in pass protection, but it’s hard to cater to both sides of the line.
Dak Prescott has built a relationship with Joe Milton since he came to Dallas in a trade last year. Now that he’s back on the practice squad, Prescott expressed what having him back means.
“It means a lot. Just me, personally, I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better, a guy that makes our team better. His spirit, just the way that he approaches the day, he’s a hell of a dude, he’s a hell of a competitor, one of the best at throwing the ball, honestly, and just his talent. Just the way he’s jumped and progressed from year to year, I know what’s ahead of him,” Prescott said via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Wide receiver Camden Brown has been a fan favorite during training camp and the preseason, and people were ecstatic that he made the final roster. However, the expectations for him need to be realistic.
Now, if he shows the ability to play well on special teams and he’s valuable enough to take to the game and maybe play a little on offense, then let’s see it. But my guess is that he’ll probably be inactive for a lot of this season. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I saw Miles Austin sit for a few years before finally making a huge splash in Year 4. And think about Ryan Flournoy was barely a factor for two years and now he’s WR3 who won’t play much special teams at all.
