Insidious Couldn’t Go Further Than Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Brand New Day held the top of the box office for the fourth week in a row, beating Insidious: Out of the Further on its opening weekend. Insidious 6 made $25 million domestic, compared to Spider-Man 4 (or 11, if you count the other Spider-Men’s franchises), which took in $39 mil. The spider-film’s domestic total is $854.9 million — career bests for Zendaya and director Destin Daniel Cretton. For Tom Holland, Avengers: Endgame still tops it. For now. Brand New Day is $3.4 mil away from surpassing Avengers: Endgame to become the second-highest-grossing domestic box office of all time, which seems pretty likely.

Insidious is in the middle of Tomdaya sandwich, with Brand New Day above it and The Odyssey below it. The latter film came in at No. 3 domestically with an additional $19.5 mil to Ithaca’s glory. At No. 4 was Paw Patrol: Dino Movie with $9.1 million. That’s only $.1 million more than the other dino movie in theaters right now, The End of Oak Street. Just missing the top five was the new Jason Statham joint, Mutiny. Was the giant inflatable Statham towering over Hollywood Boulevard all for naught?
