Islam Makhachev believes that the legacy his legendary team is leaving is more so outside of the octagon than it is in it.
After rising through the ranks in the shadow of his iconic mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev has grown into one of the greatest fighters of all time in his own right. He broke the long-standing record for lightweight title defences, before moving up to welterweight and claiming a second belt.

Islam Makhachev reveals his key message outside of fighting
In a recent interview with Arena Fight TV, Islam Makhachev noted that when he is finished with fighting, he would rather be known for spreading the word of his religion than for competing. He and his team want to spread a positive message, which they do through their position as major celebrities.
“we never go to parties, smoke, drink, or do bad things. That’s why we have big support in our country.”

He advocates for avoiding major vices and seems to avoid the party lifestyle that has thwarted other star fighters. This is the same for his teammates such as Umar Nurmagomedov and to a lesser extent Usman Nurmagomedov.
“How many young kids are looking up to Khabib?” He asked. “They’re looking up to our team and we never go partying. We never go smoke, drink, do some bad things and that’s why we have a big support in our country.
“I also try to show MMA fighters real Muslims who are not smoking and not doing any of these bad things.”
