Georges St-Pierre has told Conor McGregor what he must be prepared to show during his hotly anticipated UFC 329 showdown with Max Holloway in July.

Conor McGregor has had a five-year hiatus from the UFC octagon after the 37-year-old Irish superstar broke his leg against Dustin Poirier in the first round at UFC 264.

Dustin Poirier inflicted back-to-back TKO victories over McGregor at UFC 257 and UFC 264 in 2021 and avenged his initial UFC 178 defeat to the ‘Notorious’ in 2014.

McGregor is now one of the key headlines for UFC’s return to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 329, with the Irishman facing Max Holloway in a rematch.

Georges St-Pierre says Conor McGregor must find his ‘discomfort zone’ again for Max Holloway fight at UFC 329

Conor McGregor will return to action at welterweight instead of lightweight for his five-round encounter with UFC star Max Holloway on 11th July.

The future UFC Hall of Famer crossed paths with Holloway early in his UFC run and the ‘Notorious’ sealed a unanimous decision win at UFC Fight Night 26 in 2013.

Speaking to The Break Talk, Georges St-Pierre has now admitted that McGregor’s MMA return could hinge on him putting himself in an ‘uncomfortable position’ again.

“You know, we talk about fighters that try to make a comeback sometimes, like Conor McGregor is going to try to make a comeback,” he said.

“I think if he wants to be successful, because it’s hard once you [have] made it — you’re a millionaire, you wake up in a nice bed, warm — to go back into a discomfort zone, but you need to be willing to do that.”

UFC legend Georges St-Pierre explains the importance of motivation for Conor McGregor ahead of MMA return

St-Pierre, who is widely regarded as one of the best fighters of all time, added that McGregor must show that he still has the hunger to compete at the top level as well.

“You need to be willing to go through an army of guys that are waiting for you in the gym to kick your a–,” he added.

“You need to go through that in order to prepare yourself the best you can for what the fight will be.

“And sometimes if you’re wealthy, you’re the boss, you decide the conditions [under] which you will be put into. I don’t think it’s the right way.”

McGregor and Holloway are the co-main events for July’s UFC 329 card alongside Benoit Saint Denis and Paddy Pimblett’s three-round lightweight bout.
