The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned actor and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nusrat Jahan in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged ration smuggling case from 2020.
The agency has asked Jahan to appear at its Kolkata zonal office on April 22 for questioning in the case, as per news agency ANI.
The summons relate to an ED probe initiated on the basis of a West Bengal Police FIR registered at Basirhat Police Station on October 23, 2020. The complaint was filed by the Deputy Commissioner of Customs at Ghojadanga Land Customs Station, as per a report by The Indian Express.
The case concerns the alleged diversion of wheat supplied under the Public Distribution System (PDS) meant for welfare schemes.

Investigators had earlier seized several trucks near the Basirhat border during the Covid-19 lockdown on suspicion that wheat and rice meant for distribution were being smuggled into Bangladesh. Jahan was the MP from Basirhat at that time.
Financial links under examination
The agency is examining financial transactions involving individuals and entities allegedly connected to the smuggling network. Jahan has been called for questioning as her name surfaced during the course of the investigation.
The ED has not made any direct allegations against the former MP so far. Jahan is currently abroad and has requested that she be allowed to appear before investigators at the agency’s New Delhi headquarters instead of the Kolkata office, as per the Express report.
