Game development is celebrated as being both a creative and technical field—but when it comes to creativity, the industry is still learning how to expand its vision and support junior developers competing for the very, very few number of jobs out there.

One industry up-and-comer is tackling both challenges: Gearbox writer Alexa Ray Corriea. She’s worked on major franchises like Marvel, Call of Duty, and Lord of the Rings and indie games like Octodad and Aztech: Forgotten Gods, hosts the official Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Game Maker’s Notebook podcast, and spends what time she can mentoring junior developers and encouraging other developers to do better by up-and-coming creatives.

Today—live from the GDC Festival of Gaming show floor—we’re talking about everything from avoiding game writing books, the best ways to give feedback, and how to nurture creativity in newcomers so they can thrive in the video game industry.
