Rapper Offset was shot outside a popular casino in Florida on Monday, with rapper Lil Tjay charged with disorderly conduct in the incident.
The former member of Atlanta-based hip-hop trio Migos, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, Offset’s rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Offset is “currently at the hospital receiving medical care,” the rep added in a statement, adding that he is “stable and being closely monitored.” The Seminole Police Department also shared that he has a “non-life threatening injury.”
The Seminole PD told THR Monday night that officers responded to “an incident that occurred at a valet area after 7 p.m. Monday outside of Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood that resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.”
Authorities said the “situation was contained quickly” and that two people were detained by police in connection with the shooting.
“The investigation is ongoing. The site is secure and there is no threat to the public. Operations continue as normal,” the police department added in a statement.
On Tuesday, the Seminole PD added that Lil Tjay, real name Tione Jayden Merritt, was charged with disorderly conduct for fighting and was booked into the Broward County Jail late Monday night. The second person detained has not been charged. And the investigation to identify additional individuals involved in the incident continues.
Tjay’s disorderly conduct charge had drawn some confusion online as some claims had surfaced that Tjay had shot Offset. Lil Tjay’s attorney, Dawn Florio, shared a statement on Instagram looking to clear up “false rumors,” noting that “Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting.
“Any reporting to the contrary is false,” Florio said. “We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting, before reflexively sharing or repeating baseless rumors.”
Additional details surrounding what led to the shooting weren’t immediately available.
Offset’s Migos bandmate Takeoff, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot in November 2022. Takeoff died at 28 after being killed outside a bowling alley in Houston. In May 2023, Patrick Xavier Clark was indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Takeoff. He is set to go on trial on Nov. 9, 2026.
Offset rose to fame with Migos, which was formed in 2008 with Quavo and Takeoff. Hailing from Lawrenceville, Georgia, Migos had stratospheric success in the 2010s, becoming genuine pop culture phenomenons as well as one of the best-selling music groups of the decade. Their tracks “Versace,” “MotorSport,” “Stir Fry” and “Walk It Talk It” became enduring hits, with the Atlanta rap classic “Bad and Boujee” topping the Billboard charts and propelling them to mainstream stardom.
Although it was never officially announced, Migos was believed to have broken up by 2022. In October 2022, Quavo and Takeoff released an album without Offset titled Only Built for Infinity Links.
Post-Migos, Offset found his own success as a solo artist, including with his hit songs “Ric Flair Drip,” “Clout” (feat. Cardi B) and “SAY MY GRACE” (feat. Travis Scott).
The rapper has six children, including two daughters and a son with his estranged wife, rapper Cardi B. He also had two sons and another daughter from previous relationships.
