Katie Taylor has revealed that reports of her being in talks for a fight with Ronda Rousey were a hoax from her management.
Boxing icon Taylor and MMA pioneer Rousey were reportedly locked in negotiations for a fight towards the end of last year, but both ended up going in different directions. And it appears that it was never any more than a ‘bit of craic’ from the Irishwoman’s team.

Taylor is promoted by Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, and has been managed by the legendary Irish boxing mogul Brian Peters since before turning professional. She is now set for the biggest night in her nation’s sporting history as she headlines Croke Park on September 5 against Flora Pili.

Perhaps fortunately for Ronda Rousey, it appears that the talks of a boxing match with Katie Taylor were never any more than a hoax. Instead, she managed to make a stunning return to the cage against Gina Carano, which she won within 17 seconds.
Speaking with Bloody Elbow in Dublin on Friday, Taylor replied “I don’t think so” when asked if the fight ever had a realistic chance of happening. She noted that it was “just something Brian had come up with,” to which he added that “it was just a bit of craic, really.”
“We wanted to see what kind of legs it would get,” he said through giggles. “It done well though, it done well.”
Taylor was one of the record-breaking 17 million viewers who tuned in to the super-fight, which made it the most watched fight in American MMA history. She was impressed with Rousey returning at such a high level after a decade out, even if it did end quicker than expected.
