US Stock Market Highlights | Wall Street rises for second day as Dow turns positive for 2026

US Stock Market Highlights: US stocks advanced for a second consecutive session on Thursday (April 9) as investor optimism over the fragile two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran persisted, despite higher crude prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 275.88 points, or 0.58%, turning positive for the year with a 0.26% gain year-to-date. The S&P 500 added 0.62%, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.83%. Energy markets remained elevated, with West Texas Intermediate crude up 4% to above $98 per barrel after earlier breaching $100, and Brent crude trading 2% higher above $96 a barrel.

Markets were supported after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed direct talks with Lebanon, easing tensions over the ceasefire. Investor sentiment was further lifted by a 2% gain in Meta Platforms’ shares following the launch of its new AI model. Defensive sectors, including Walmart and utilities companies such as Constellation Energy, also contributed to the broad market gains.
