Playing scratch-off tickets is a habit for many people, and once people have a favorite game they would like to play, they stick with it almost religiously. However, one Ohio resident’s decision to buck the trend has proven to be the right one, bringing him a neat seven-figure payout.

After checking a few places for his favorite scratch-off lottery ticket, the winner of a $1,000,000 prize decided to opt for another game, which is how he came into possession of the significant sum.

Based in Ashville, the man told lottery officials how he had to travel around looking for the Extreme Million scratch-off tickets while commuting to work, and finally gave up after he tried a few places to no avail.

Instead of buying his usual ticket, he randomly opted for the $1,000,000 Cashword ticket instead at the GetGo on West 3rd Avenue in Columbus, and a good thing he did, as this brought him the mega-win.

At first, the winner could not believe their luck – and even asked a colleague to weigh in. The colleague scanned the ticket and confirmed it – the Ashville man had indeed won the life-changing amount.

The winner now may choose between the annuity option, which will see him get a larger overall sum in the end, and the cash option, which will take out about 26.75% in taxes from the total prize when opting for the lump sum payment.

Jackpot wins are frequent in Ohio, with the lottery having paid out billions in various prizes across its games.
