inZOI Studio lead Hyungjun ‘Kjun’ Kim is in charge of one of the most promising, vivid life simulation games on the market – InZOI went into Early Access in 2025 – but he is unable to simulate affection for his son who apparently “did not have the talent” for the craft of games development.

GamesRadar+ recently attended a Q&A session at developer Krafton’s office in Seoul, where Kim explains more (H/T IGN, whose transcription of the translated Q&A supplemented our own audio).

After being asked what motivated him to create a life sim like inZOI, Kim talks about playing The Sims with his son, who he presumably loves. He’s mentioned this story before, while tallying up the reasons for making a pocket-sized ecosystem like inZOI. His son wondered why there weren’t more life sims for him and his dad to play together, so Kim obliged by creating one.

“He kept asking me about [The Sims] and said he wanted to be a developer himself,” Kim recalls, but “he did not have the talent for it.”

“He’s much bigger than me,” Kim continues, “He’s all grown up.” And yet, the InZOi lead admits, “I worry about him these days. I don’t know why he seems so untalented, but I thought maybe if he just played some inZOI, he might learn game development.”

And, you know, he did. Kim says his son now works on mods for inZOI. So, yeah, that’s almost like taking after his father – with the elder Kim’s job of being a producer and director at a major global video game company. He’s not a failure. Right, Dad?

New inZOI patch dubbed the “GTA 6 update” by eager fans, adding everything from cozy flower shops to car theft to the Sims 4 competitor.
