A LOT OF guys lately have been sharing more skin—and it’s not just because the summer is here. Men’s shorts have gotten shorter, setting them up to showcase their quads, hamstrings, and glutes.

“It used to be hard to find a five-inch short to show off your quad. Now it just seems like it’s a prerequisite,” says fitness influencer Sadik Hadzovic in the latest Strong Talk episode.

Hadzovic broke down how leg day has morphed from a universal source of gym dread into a critical training day. Since the beginning of gym time, almost every guy has feared leg day, despite how much it benefits your body. But the short-shorts trend and several other factors have guys increasingly focusing on enhancing lower-body size.

Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S. has two theories about why. First, he says, men now understand that their glutes their athletic engines. Second, there is a new appeal for peach-shaped tushes (possibly in part because of the hype around Hudson William’s hockey butt). Hadzovic, a bodybuilding legend, adds that guys are more conscious of avoiding the “Johnny Bravo” look, with massive, wide shoulders—and ultra-skinny legs.

How can you avoid it? By tweaking your leg workouts with advice from Hadzovic, Samuel, and exercise physiologist and strength coach Dr. Pat Davidson. The trio spent the episode breaking down their best leg day workouts, common misconceptions about leg training, and the intensity required to push your legs to the limit. Check out the full episode.
