Jorge Masvidal has no love lost for Chael Sonnen and called out ‘The American Gangster’ for some gloveless combat. This latest proclamation of wanting to fight Sonnen took place for Masvidal during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.
These two fighters have bantered back and forth with one another for a meaningful enough period of time, despite Sonnen fighting as high up as heavyweight, while Masvidal has competed as low as lightweight. When asked if he’s made Sonnen an official offer for a contest or if the actual offer was taking place at that specific juncture while speaking on Helwani’s show, with an excerpt from the interview posted to X account @RedCorner_MMA, Masvidal said,
“In the past with boxing, we made him offers. He didn’t take them obviously. He wanted like twenty seven million dollars. But we’re going to make him a fight in MMA. See if he accepts it at heavyweight because I know his fat a** can’t do anything else. So whatever.”
When asked if that hypothetical bout would be in UFC or on his Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA show, where the two combatants would not be donning the gloves, Masvidal stated,
“He got kicked out of UFC. It has to only happen in my show. Let’s never forget that this is the most caught guy with PEDs in his system. Like, if we take him to the UFC, they’re going to test him again, and he’s going to fail. I know that he’s going to be on PEDs fighting against me, and I’ll still do it… I don’t give a f*** about what you do, brother. I feel bad for you, man.”
Jorge Masvidal predicts Chimaev vs. Strickland and Gaethje vs. Topuria UFC championship bout breakdowns
Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a mixed martial arts bout under his Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA banner against the former two-division UFC title challenger, but the former welterweight title challenger and inaugural BMF champ has weighed in on some big UFC title fights coming up.
During an interview with Full Send MMA, Masvidal mentioned that he would be “dumping the house on Sean Strickland” as he sees the controversial American becoming a two-time middleweight champ on route to dethroning Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328 on May 9th.
Regarding the UFC Freedom 250 headliner, Masvidal also assessed the Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje lightweight title unification bout. Spotlighting that UFC White House main event clash on his own podcast, Death Row MMA, Jorge Masvidal mentioned that while he likes Gaethje and doesn’t entirely rule out an upset transpiring, ‘Gamebred’ pretty definitively picked Topuria to get the victory on June 14th.
