Marcus Buchecha’s MMA experiment may have come to an end at UFC Vegas 116.

The BJJ legend has not won since joining MMA’s premier promotion in July 2025.

Martin Buday outpointed the 36-year-old Brazilian in his UFC debut before a point deduction saved Marcus Buchecha – real name Marcus Almeida – from suffering a second straight loss against Kennedy Nzechukwu, who had to settle for a majority draw last December.

Who is the greatest BJJ fighter in UFC history?

Marcus Buchecha faces UFC axe after KO defeat

Marcus Buchecha tried to get his first UFC win against Ryan Spann at UFC Vegas 116.

The former light heavyweight bravely engaged in a grappling match with Buchecha in round one.

In the second frame, Spann sent the multiple-time world jiu-jitsu champion flying across the cage with a massive punch.

A huge overhand right left Buchecha in a heap on the floor before referee Herb Dean stepped in to save him by waving off the contest.

Fans shared their thoughts on what should be next for Buchecha after he dropped to 5-3-1 in MMA.

“Retirement,” one person predicted. While another added: “He’s pretty terrible.”

“Cut him,” a third fan demanded.

“He shouldn’t fight UFC, stick to doing BJJ,” someone else said.

“Back to BJJ. Getting punched is no joke,” another X user added.

“He doesn’t have the skills or the time to develop them to make any waves in high-level MMA. Honestly, UFC BJJ is a good option,” a sixth fan commented.
