Lorelai and Emily Gilmore may have been unable to go 10 minutes without swiping at one another on Gilmore Girls, but off-screen, actors Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop have zero beef. In fact, the close friends recently reunited for an event to promote Bishop’s new memoir, and the presence of two Gilmores in the same place is just about Christmas for a GG fan.
On September 17, Bishop sat down for a discussion about her book at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, and surprised and delighted guests when she revealed that the moderator for the discussion would be none other than Graham, herself the author of multiple memoirs.
“Only one thing, for me, that would make it more special: If there was another Gilmore girl,” Bishop told the crowd before Graham entered. Bishop’s memoir is called The Third Gilmore Girl, so it only made sense to get as many Gilmores as possible. The crowd went, no joke, wild.
Many of their sweet moments were captured and shared on TikTok so that fans around the world could see the joy of their reunion. “I feel so happy and proud,” Graham said in one. “This book is just incredible, you are just incredible. Any excuse to see you—but to be here together is just something I would never miss.”
“Every day, I’m so lucky I get to be your pretend daughter,” Graham said in another.
What a fun surprise. As Mrs. Gilmore herself once said, “Well it’s not every day I have my girls here for dinner on a day the banks are open.”
The memoir covers Bishop’s life and acclaimed career before she joined the hit show (she was a Broadway star and played the mom in Dirty Dancing, among other accomplishments), plus the roles newer fans might know her from. After Gilmore Girls ended, Bishop continued to work with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, appearing on her follow-up shows Bunheads and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
