Rich Homie Quan has died at the age of 33.
The unfortunate news began as a rumor before being confirmed by TMZ, who received verification via the rapper’s family and a rep for the Fulton County morgue. According to family members, he died in his Atlanta home.
Screenwriter Malcolm “Champ” Heaggans, who has previously worked with the rapper on various projects, also confirmed his passing.

Boosie Badazz offered his condolences and shared what he was told was Quan’s cause of death, writing on Instagram, “JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD‼️ JUST TALK TO WUAN THE OTHER DAY. JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA #ripQUAN Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music. WE GOT SOME GOOD A** MEMORIES TOGETHER N THAT GO ALWAYS BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE #restupquan WE WAS COOKING UP SOME SH*T TOO,” he added, revealing the pair had a collaboration in the works.
Rumors of the “Type Of Way” artist passing were first shared via the ThuggerDaily X/Twitter page, where the account’s owner posted a DM from an associate of Quan’s who privately confirmed his death.
Born Dequantes Lamar, Rich Homie Quan found notoriety in 2013 with is instant hit “Type Of Way,” as well as his several collaborations with Young Thug. The two had a falling out that was never resolved.
Quan was most recently brought up during Thug’s YSL RICO trial, as star witness Lil Woody claims he and an associate shot up the rapper’s father’s barbershop. Soon after, Rich Homie Quan called Woody a “liar” for his statement. Check out what is believed to be his final interview below.
