It should come as no surprise that high fashion is a dominating subject within the Vogue office. You’ll often overhear subtle gasps throughout the floor, whether it’s coming from colleagues admiring other’s editor wish list purchases in real time to receiving an exciting launch email from a major brand, or from hearing the latest fashion news taking over social media. That being said, we’re equally as preoccupied with a good deal, and often share our affordable fashion finds with one another. With that in mind, a real sartorial challenge emerged: can Vogue editors embrace their favorite spring and summer trends for under $300?

Then, we have overarching themes, like reworked visions of athleisure, thanks to The Attico, Commission, and Ralph Lauren with their modernized windbreakers, polo dresses, and knits, as well as fluidity in the form of lace trimmings and sheer details found at Miu Miu and Carven. Ahead, 11 Vogue editors on their favorite trendy finds for under $300. The Affordable Fashion Challenge awaits!
Let’s Get Crafty
“I like to think my style embodies the overall mood of this trend, come the summer and warmer months. I am a firm believer that a little bit of texture or unique detail on a simple silhouette goes a long way, especially when it comes to a minimally-minded wardrobe. For example, a hem full of fringe or a crochet tank makes an otherwise plain black, white, or ivory item feel much more special. Play up the artful but undoubtedly cool aesthetic with a must-have pendant necklace strung on a cord or an interesting but not over-the-top sandal.” —Madeline Fass, senior market editor

Bi-Coastal Prep
“One World Trade is a skipping stone away from the North Cove Marina, but that can feel a world away from the lure of the sea when you are stuck on the 25th floor in gale-force air conditioning. However, a simple dash of coastal prep can make you feel ready for summer seafaring, whether or not that is actually anchored in reality–see what I did there?” —Chloe Malle, Vogue.com editor

I Can’t Believe it Is Butter (Yellow)
“Butter yellow is a neutral—you heard it here first! I rarely wear color, so investing in something different (for me, I know butter yellow won’t seem adventurous to many of our readers) means I want to keep the price affordable. Whether that’s an easy dress to be styled with chocolate brown accessories, a linen blazer to be thrown over a T-shirt and pale blue pants or a jelly flip-flop, these are easy breezy butter yellow items to slip into your existing wardrobe. And if you’re a lover of unexpected combinations, allow our color expert and Tibi founder and creative director Amy Smilovic in her new column Color Math tell you how to style this season’s must-have shade.” —Libby Page, executive shopping director

“Silk and lace perfectly capture the romantic mood seen on the runways—translating that for real life is easily done with a lace-trimmed midi dress, itty bitty shorts, or slip skirt set. For accessories, I love the idea of a sweet scrunchie or lace-up ballerina.” —Talia Abbas, senior shopping editor

Prints on Prints on Prints
“Who says you have to pick just one print? I’m leaning into the joy of mixing patterns this season. Think mesh tops, floral slips, and striped skirts that all somehow work together. Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with print as the temps warm up!” —Naomi Elizee, senior fashion editor

“Billowing fabrics, earthen textures, and accessories on accessories, the boho appeal is strong these days. I appreciate the effortlessness of Massimo Dutti’s white skirt that’ll be breezy as temperatures heat up, paired perhaps with & Other Stories’s long-sleeved crochet. What else to pair this ensemble with than Sézane clogs, a vintage-inspired belt, and bangles and bobbles?” —Kiana Murden, senior beauty writer

Checks & Balances
“This summer, you can expect way more from your quintessential gingham. Variations of plaids and checks graced collections like Kallmeyer and The Row, with its flowing skirts and drape neck tops and a checked car coat from the latter. The print feels fresh for the new season, and there’s lots of great iterations of the look from brands in the under-$300 space—including Staud’s adorable mesh market tote, The Frankie Shop’s elevated contrast collar button-up, and Guest in Residence’s little knit polo, making it easy to check this trend off of your list!” —M.F.

Thinking Pink
“If you were to see me on a day-to-day basis, then you would know my main color story exists in the world of neutrals; brown, black, grey, white, cream, off-white, buttercream—but never a true hue. That was it for me, and what I naturally gravitated toward, until I saw the baby pink, powder ballerina softness gracefully make itself known on the spring runways. This color to me is neutral, and I can’t wait to incorporate some pops of it into my summer wardrobe.” —Cortne Bonilla, senior shopping writer

Sheer Brilliance
“Although delicate, the season’s latest chiffons, tulles, sheer organza, and cascading silks aren’t afraid to take up space—or attention! As the weather warms up, I’m looking forward to embellishing my looks with semi-sheer pieces that won’t break the bank. All of the pieces below can be mixed and matched with other (non-sheer) pieces you probably already own! I’m adding Massimo Dutti’s semi-sheer polo and Cos’s transparent mules to cart, asap.” —C.B.
