A look ahead at the Saints vs. Giants in Week 5

The New Orleans Saints will be facing the New York Giants at home in a Week 5 matchup. The Giants went 3-14 last year but even with that lackluster performance, this is a game that I have circled on my calendar due to the potential Jameis Winston return game.

While these are not two teams coming off contending seasons looking to duke it out in the second month of the young season but that doesn’t mean there isn’t intrigue, even if it’s niche.

The big elephant in the room will be the QB battle. Neither team has a clear-cut starter at the position right now, but both are in very different scenarios. With the Derek Carr retirement news coming out of nowhere, the Saints have a QB room where they’re looking for a young guy (or elder rookie) to step up. For New York, they have their pick of two veterans (Jameis Winston or Russell Wilson) or their first round NFL Draft pick (Jaxson Dart). I’ll be honest with you, I don’t even know what they should want. In my opinion, Wilson has lost a step, noticeably, Jameis is the best guy in the locker room, but his on-field performance is feist or famine, and Jaxson Dart is an unproven rookie.

For me though, this game will come down to the quarterback battle and I’m hoping that the Giants do the right thing, even if just for Week 5 and let Jameis get the nod, although I’m sure they won’t still be picking their starter a month into the season, but I can dream. It will be an interesting matchup if Winston does return to New Orleans to face his former team.
